By Jennifer Weis
Looking to plan a spa vacation? First you need to figure out what you are looking for in your trip and your budget. Is it a relaxing Girl's or Guy's getaway or scheduled physically challenging weekend? Are you looking for Zen, Golf or lounging with cocktails? Spa vacations have become very popular for both women and men and there are many types of Spa's available.
Understanding what result you want from your Spa Trip and knowing there are different types of Spas available can help you choose the correct location to go. Your basic spa choices include: Day Spas (stand alone or in hotels where you can get various treatments on a day-use basis), Destination Spas (everything is about the spa services and your well being), Resort Spas (typically in a hotel or resort and offer spa services along with other activities resort activities, like golf, restaurants and bars, great for families or couples), Medical Spas (offering treatments that require a doctor's supervision, such as laser resurfacing and Botox) and traditional European type Springs Spas (with natural mineral, thermal springs or seawater hydrotherapy treatments).
Which is right for you? Here are some things to ask.
1. Do you want just a weekend away to splurge on yourself and relax in the pool? Look for a Hotel with Spa and additional available services and amenities.
2. Are you looking for the spa to reach you inner self? Look for a spa with organized programs for wellness, outdoor programs, and services that include yoga, T'ai Chi, Hypnosis, Meditation, or counseling. Look for a spa that offers to teach you about your body, how to care for it, understand it, energize it, and feed it.
3. Do you want to get in touch with Nature? Look for a spa in a remote location with organized outdoor exercises and trails for hiking. Try one that has acres of land for outdoor activities.
4. Are you looking to change your body and learn how to eat right and exercise? Look for certified training and a personal schedule, organized indoor and outdoor activities and spa/nutritional cuisine. You may also look for a Dr. on staff to perform a physical prior to starting your program.
5. Are you on a budget? Try an all inclusive or look for spa packages or find one locally. Check the fine print to see which treatments, classes and services are extra.
6. Are you most relaxed in flip flops? Look for a small in a warmer location that allows you to shed your jacket and put on your sandals.
Last once you plan it, relax and enjoy it.
